Empowering Future Changemakers
Every year, nearly 20-30 million pounds of food are wasted in Northeast Ohio while our neighbors continue to suffer from acute food shortages, rising grocery costs, and greater market inaccessibility. At Water4Plants, we are a student-led initiative to end hunger, fight waste, and empower Cleveland residents
"Cleveland ranks as the third-neediest city in the US"

Partnering with nonprofits
We reach out and accept partnerships from organizations that align with our mission: Fighting food insecurity and waste. Through this, we can serve a broader audience of food-insecure residents.
Food waste reduction
We rescue edible/surplus food items from local grocery stores destined for landfills and redistribute it to those who need it most.
Volunteer opportunities
Join our dedicated team of volunteers and make a tangible difference in our community's fight against food insecurity.

Our Story
Water4Plants started after our founder learned about the nutrition and food insecurity crisis at one of the summer programs she attended in her former home city, Cleveland. Since June of 2026, an idea was brewing, the seed was planted, and a team was assembled.
Our Current Work
Since June of 2026, we have collected nearly $300+ worth of resources to utilize towards our local shelters and food banks. Additionally, we have current talks in process with the Prevention Research Center for Healthy Neighborhoods at Case Western Reserve University and partnered with Hunger Network as food recipients.
Our Vision
We hope in the future that Water4Plants can empower Cleveland youth to become future changemakers by providing nutritious meals. Moreover, we also envision a future where our operations expand to serve the entire state of Ohio.
Hear About Our Members' Why
"I want to combat food insecurity because I believe that access to food is a human right that many people are still denied to this day due to systemic inequalities and financial hardships. Food is a right, not a privilege.
— Grace Yu, Director of Operations
"Food insecurity is not a problem just held deeply in me, but it's also held deeply for our neighbors who make day-to-day decisions. They are the ones deciding what essentials they can give up just to stay within their budget. That is why I started Water4Plants because I want to fight food waste and redistribute collected surplus goods to help the greater residents of Cleveland.
— Kathy W, Executive Director
